Face and Eyelid Rejuvenation:

In addition to his expertise in rhytidectomy or “facelift” surgery whereby the SMAS-platysma and overlying soft tissues are repositioned, Dr. Yaremchuk is one of the few surgeons to perform subperiosteal midface lifts. This operation uses techniques from his experience in craniofacial surgery where facial soft tissues are detached from the facial skeleton and re-suspended to restore a youthful, yet natural look.

In 2000, Dr. Yaremchuk published a paper on brow, midface and lower facelift concepts and surgical techniques that was published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. Papers written in 2003 and 2005 also included the use of the subperiosteal midface lift to improve facial appearance. In 2007, Dr.Yaremchuk has presented his techniques for periorbital and midface rejuvenation at the Anti-Aging Medicine World Congress in Paris, at the President’s Meeting of Buenos Aires Plastic Surgeons, and at the New York City Aging Face Conference. In 2008, they were presented at the German and Japanese Societies for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery’s Annual Meetings in Cologne and Hiroshima, respectively.

Patients who have had face and eyelid rejuvenation by Dr. Yaremchuk are shown in the patient examples section of this website.

Revisional Cosmetic Surgery:

Dr. Yaremchuk has a special interest in treating referred patients who are displeased with the results of their prior cosmetic surgery procedures. Many problems can be corrected by Dr. Yaremchuk, including:

  • The 'round eye' appearance after lower eyelid surgery
  • The 'scooped out' or 'pinched' look after nasal surgery
  • The 'windswept' look or uneven neck contour after facelift surgery
  • Displeasing chin contours after chin implant surgery
  • Improperly contoured or positioned cheek implants
  • Unnaturally high brows and hairlines after endoscopic or conventional brow lifts

In November 2002, Dr. Yaremchuk presented a paper on the correction of the “round eye” appearance after lower eyelid surgery at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons´ Annual Meeting, and the following year he was asked to present this topic at the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons Annual Meeting in London, England. He presented his techniques for correcting this problem at the 2006 Madrid International iConference on Plastic Surgery, and at the New York City Aging Face Conference. In 2007, Dr.Yaremchuk addressed this problem at the Anti-Aging Medicine World Congress in Paris, at the President’s Meeting of Buenos Aires Plastic Surgeons, and at the New York City Aging Face Conference. His paper on this subject was published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in January 2003.

Dr. Yaremchuk lectured on "the avoidance and treatment of malar implant deformities" at the New England Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons Annual Meeting in June of 2005, at the European Society of Plastic Surgeons Meeting in August of 2005 in Vienna and at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons Annual Meeting in September of 2005 in Chicago. His paper on this topic. Secondary Malar Implant Surgery was published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in February 2008.

In February and March of 2005 at The Northeastern Society of Plastic Surgeons Annual Meeting and at the Annual Perspectives and Advances Meeting, respectively, Dr. Yaremchuk presented his techniques for correcting the overelevated brow and hairline. He lectured on this topic at the the 2006 Madrid International iConference on Plastic Surgery. He presented his technique for "Reversing Browlifts" at the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery's annual meeting in New York City in April of 2007 at the President’s Meeting of Buenos Aires Plastic Surgeons, at the New York City Aging Face Conference and at the Korean Society for Plastic and reconstructive Surgery’s annual meeting. He lectured on this topic at the International Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in Melboune, Australia in February of 2008. His paper “Reversing Browlifts” was published in the Aesthetic Surgery Journal in 2008.

His care of patients referred to him with facial deformities created by unfortunate cosmetic surgery has been reported in Self, British Glamour, and Allure magazines. Also, his treatment of such a patient is featured on the E! Network.

Facial Implants:

Dr. Yaremchuk employs his knowledge and experience with craniofacial surgery and biomaterials to create new facial skeletal contours. Using facial implants made of porous polyethylene, a material unlikely to cause the overlying soft tissue deformities due to capsule formation seen in time when silicone is used, he can mimic the facial appearance obtained with more extensive facial skeletal surgeries. Dr. Yaremchuk custom carves all facial implants from basic shapes -many of which he has personally designed.

As an expert on altering the facial skeleton for cosmetic and reconstructive purposes, Dr. Yaremchuk chaired a symposium on facial implants in 1996 and has written several articles and chapters on this topic. In 2002, he lectured on the use of facial implants for cosmetic and craniofacial surgery at the Mexican Association of Plastic Surgeons’ National Congress, at the Association of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons of Southern Africa’s Annual Congress, and at the Symposium on Orbital Surgery sponsored by the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons. In 2003, he lectured to plastic surgeons on facial implant related topics in Mexico, Germany and England. He lectured on facial contouring and rejuvenation to plastic surgeons in Taipei, Taiwan and Seoul, Korea in 2004 as well as Paris, France and Madrid, Spain in 2006. In 2007, he has lectured on facial implants in Paris, Berlin, Salvador, Buenos Aires, New York and Seoul. In 2008, lectures on these topics were presented in Cologne and Hiroshima.

Papers written by Dr. Yaremchuk presenting his use of implants to improve lower and upper facial contours were published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. Most recently, his paper “Enlarging the Deficient Mandible” was published in the September 2007 issue of the Aesthetic Surgery Journal. "Secondary Malar Implant Surgery" was published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in February of 2008. His ATLAS OF FACIAL IMPLANTS has recently been published by Elsevier-Saunders and was awarded an Association of Medical Illustrators 2007 Award for surgical atlases. Patients who have had their facial contour improved with implants are shown in the patient examples section of this website.

Cranio-Orbital Deformities:

Dr. Yaremchuk has vast experience in the reconstruction of facial deformities; with a special interest in the cranio-orbital area. Dr. Yaremchuk was a co-winner of the Year 2000 Best Paper Award presented by the Maxillofacial Surgeons Foundation of the American Society of Maxillofacial Surgeons. He has lectured nationally and internationally, and has written many articles and chapters on these topics. His chapter on the correction of post-traumatic enophthalmos (sinking in of the eye) was published in the Atlas of Orbitocranial Surgery in 2000. A paper on the proper treatment of acute orbital injuries and the correction of established deformities was published in 2000 in the Journal of Craniomaxillofacial Trauma. In March of 2006, Dr. Yaremchuk lectured on “Craniofacial reconstruction with prefabricated implants” at the French meeting - Les nouvelles imageries en chirurgie maxillo-faciale Congres de L’association Francaise des Chirurgiens Maxillo-Faciaux. He also presented this work at the Forum de Cirurgia e traumtologia Buco-maxilo-Facial de Rio deJaneiro in November of 2006. He co-chaired a meeting on the management of cranio-maxillo-facial trauma in Boston last spring. Patients who have had cranioorbital deformities treated by Dr. Yaremchuk are shown in the patient examples section of this website.

Body Contouring:

Dr. Yaremchuk has extensive experience in breast augmentation and reduction surgeries. He routinely reconstructs breasts immediately following mastectomy procedures to minimize patients' experience of breast loss. Liposuction is involved in a significant portion of Dr. Yaremchuk's cosmetic surgery practice.

Tissue Engineering:

Tissue engineering involves the seeding of cells onto synthetic polymers to create three-dimensional structures, which can then be implanted to replace or augment a patient's damaged or missing parts. Dr. Yaremchuk is at the forefront of tissue engineering research through his research lab at Massachusetts General Hospital. He has written many scientific papers on the topic as it applies to plastic surgery. In October 1999, he presented his laboratory's work at the International Society of Craniofacial Surgeons meeting in Taiwan. Several papers from Dr. Yaremchuk's laboratory were presented in November, 2001 at the first Biennial Meeting of the European Tissue Society in Freiburg, Germany. In 2006, Dr.Yaremchuk presented “ Engineering Cartilage” at the 5th International Congress of Maxillofacial and Craniofacial Distraction Paris, France. He spoke on this topic at the Korean Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery meeting in Seoul, Korea in November of 2007.

In 2003, his research fellow, Dr. Timothy Shane Johnson was awarded the Gaspar W. Anastasi Award from the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, while research fellow John M. Mesa won the Lyndon Peer Fellowship Award sponsored by the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. In 2005, John Mesa won the Shenaq International Research Award for the best oral presentation by a graduate of a foreign medical school at the Plastic Surgery Research Council in Toronto, Canada.
